Telstra International: A new focus on our global business

Telstra Corporation has undergone a significant restructure which will allow a greater focus on its international business. Telstra International will now incorporate all of Telstra’s assets and expertise outside of Australasia into a single portfolio under the leadership of Tarek Robbiati, (pictured, left). The changes, announced recently by David Thodey, CEO of Telstra Corp, emphasise the importance of the International business to Telstra’s core strategy, as well as recognising its continued success.

Tarek Robbiati will report directly to CEO, David Thodey, and will lead a global workforce of just under 5000 which now incorporates:

  • All Telstra International carrier assets, Points of Presence of Telstra International EMEA, Americas, Asia and Australia
  • CSL New World (CSLNW) Limited - Hong Kong’s first and largest mobile operator
  • Telstra's 50% stake in Reach

Mr Robbiati brings considerable experience and expertise to the role. He joins Telstra from CSLNW where he held the position of CEO for more than 2 years. Prior to this Mr. Robbiati had over 15 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, with roles at Telstra and Orange PCS. In addition he has worked as a strategy consultant with Accenture, and as senior equity research analyst with Lehman Brothers in London and as Director of Strategic Marketing at Atradius NV, the world’s second-largest credit insurer.

For Telstra, this last year has demonstrated our ongoing commitment to international investment:  the enhanced Ethernet Services portfolio, the Asia America Gateway (AAG) cable system and the expanded infrastructure across South East Asia all cement Telstra’s position as a global service provider and leading Asia Pacific specialist. As a result of this new structure, our customers can look forward to continued investment in our network and managed services capabilities, geographic expansion and growth in Asia.

These changes reflect not only our successes over the past 5 years but also our strategy for continued growth, innovation and excellent customer service.
