Moneybookers continues worldwide expansion with Telstra International

New hosting deal ensures constant availability of secure online payment system for company’s over 7m users.
Moneybookers, one of Europe’s largest online payments systems which allows users to safely send and receive money via email - instantly, has enhanced its hosting to ensure the security and 24/7 availability of its services. This is particularly important in supporting the strong growth of the company – over 10,000 new customers sign up every day to make online purchases or send and receive money.
As online commerce continues to grow, with consumers set to spend in excess of £68.4bn online in 2009 , there is a continued rise in online fraud, with a total of £609.9m collected by fraudsters in 2008 . As a result, an increasing number of consumers are looking for a way to make online payments without having to put their personal financial information at risk – which is exactly the service Moneybookers offers.
Moneybookers recently announced record results for 2008 with €2.4 billion in transaction volume and profit of €18.7 million. In 2009 it expects to continue to outgrow the market and its competition, through partnering with additional merchants. Significantly, as well as striking deals with Thomas Cook, Skype and MTV Networks Germany, Moneybookers USA has partnered with eBay.com. Amidst this expansion, Moneybookers has chosen Telstra International, a leading global provider of managed networked solutions, to ensure its IT infrastructure could accommodate this increasing demand.
Moneybookers is regulated by the UK’s Financial Services Authority (FSA), which means that systems and controls must be of the highest standard, which is where Telstra International comes in. Martin Ott, Co-CEO of Moneybookers, explains: “There are a lot of demands on our system – not only do we have to ensure constant availability of our services for our customers worldwide, but we have to demonstrate to our merchants and external bodies that the system is incredibly secure. Working with Telstra International means we can focus on the company’s expansion safe in the knowledge that we have the capacity to support our strong growth.”
As part of the deal, Telstra International will provide secure and resilient hosting at its London Hosting Centre. Moneybookers’ IT team have remote access to monitor both environment and systems from their office in Bulgaria, while Telstra International’s rapid response plans for disaster recovery also guarantee the resilience of the service.
Simon Vye, CEO of Telstra International EMEA, said the inherent security built into Telstra’s global Next IP network and data centres ensures reliability, integrity and confidentiality for Moneybookers’ end users.
“Online payments are crucial to the digital economy, and, by extension, the worldwide economy, but ensuring these are secure and reliable can be a challenge. For companies with the highest security standards such as Moneybookers, ensuring there is capacity for growth is integral to the success of the service. We are really pleased Moneybookers has recognised our ability to support its expanding business,” Mr Vye said.
